Kahler To Address NAPFA National Meeting

Last week, The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors invited me to address their national convention, which is held in Salt Lake City, UT, this year in May.

I’ll be a part of a panel discussing the future of financial therapy and headline a breakout session on why financial planners that have their own financial planner, are happier and have more profitable practices than those planners who do their own planning.

Are Financial Planners All Talk and No Walk?

Michael Kitces, Nerd’s Eye View blog,  has a pertinent posting on his blog today regarding a topic I am passionate about, the need of financial planners to have their own financial planner.  His post was inspired by a webinar I was to do for national orgainization of financial planners on the topic.  The webinar was cancelled because not one financial planner signed up!

What Financial Planner Has A Planner? (A Smart One)

When people ask me, “Who is your target market?”, I will often reply that we do our best financial planning for business owners, professionals, and retirees. One of the subsets of business owners that we specialize in is financial planners.  Yes, you read that right. 

I’ve long been a proponent of financial planners having their own financial planner.  I have a financial planner for many reasons.  The first is that if I died suddenly, who would be there for my family?  The second is that I have 75 clients. My needs tended to be 76th on the list, which meant they rarely came to the top of the pile.  So having a planner is a way of putting myself “on the list.”  The only modification in my relationship with my planner is that I control all my investments and my planner gives me a second opinion.
